The AAS-Gabriel TurnTable
the aas gabriel turntable philosophy
In the range of current technical solutions to the preservation and storage of music on sound recording media, the vinyl disc (record), due to its musical and tone qualities remains in first place.Further, the developments in the area of computer aided manufacturing, robotics, logistics and automation permit a new level of precision in the fabrication of vinyl discs (software) and replay mechanisms (hardware). The simpler the technical effort during recording, the closer is the record to the original source.
The AAS-Gabriel TurnTable with the DaVinciAudio MC-Transformer "Grandezza"
The aas gabriel turntable is based on the following principles:
aas meets all requirements for the analogue reproduction of music from vinyl discs. The manufacturing quality represents the peak of precision engineering. The choice of materials guarantees a high reliability and low maintenance over many years.
aas turntable can be extended or combined according to need. In one sentence: the aas gabriel has made it possible to combine the decades of experience in the field of fine mechanics with the most modern of high technology.

Principle of Operation
As is well known master discs are produced on a cutting machine using a cutting stylus. The design of the aas gabriel drive unit uses the same physical principles of the cutting machine and stylus. The closer that these principles can be achieved, that is, the closer the replay unit is related to the original recording cutter, the better is the reproduction from the chosen media, in our case the vinyl record.
The requirements are:
a highly stable drive chassis
an acoustically "dead" turntable
completely silent bearings
a pick-up de coupled from the chassis
separate drive and control unit
an absolutely stable power supply
These form together the cornerstone of the aas turntable concept aimed at a replay system matching as closely as possible the requirements of a perfect record cutting machine.
The components and their functions
The complete chassis is produced in a single pass in a CNC controled machining centre from high density permalin-material. The chassis contains simply the bearing socket and a "load repelling" ring magnet. The roughly 26 kg turntable fitted with the bearing bush and the opposing ring magnet is dimensionally stable and practically acoustically "dead" thanks to its special design and metallurgical treatment. The turntable is guided by its vertical bearing. Thanks to the magnetic field it floats a few millimeter above the drive chassis.
An bearing unit made to the highest precision allows the turntable to operate with almost no friction. The pick-up arm is completely decoupled from the chassis. A gauge allows the perfect positioning of the arm at any time. The very stable base can be used for any radial or tangential arm. Like the drive chassis, it sits on resonance damping spikes. The very good motor which turns the turntable via a thin string is mounted in a solid, shielded housing well away from the recording head. A high quality power supply constitutes a constant and stable energy. The drive chassis, pick-up base and motor housing are stabilised inside on a massive lead base.
