SVS (short for SV Subwoofers) was started by some true bass fanatics. As fanatics, they have one simple goal: To bring you the absolute best value for your money available today. This challenge wasn’t taken lightly. There are some other excellent subwoofers you might consider for your growing home theater. But head “Sub-human” Tom Vodhanel, co-founder Ron Stimpson, and the others on the SVS team, knew they could do better. Unconstrained by preconceived notions about “what would sell”, putting aside “focus groups”, profit margins, board meetings and “regional sales targets”, SVS set about to develop a range of subs that bring theater home. And, at prices anyone might afford. From the start, there are no outside investors, no off-shore accountants, and no bean-counters coming between SVS designers and your home theater. We thought you might find that refreshing. Production, shipping and R/D operations were set up in Youngstown Ohio and scaled for low volume production...and the business was incorporated as an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) in Virginia, where shipping and e-commerce operations were centered. Customer service headed out to Colorado to be run by Ron and the SVS Financial Officer was soon inundated in his Michigan office. Virtual meetings took place virtually daily as the entire SVS concept was debated, critiqued and finally, set loose.

Promising sub prototypes were tested, changed, and tested some more…tested with music and movies. Nothing was spared the SVS torture. Drivers were smoked, amps fried. Everything was covered in dust in our relentless pursuit of affordable, world-class performance. Getting warmed up, prospective SV Subwoofers were run up to both subtle and extreme levels (and everything in between). We listened…and we measured -- making sure both subjective and objective goals were met, and usually exceeded. Without getting too subjective, we feel that when you watch a movie our subs should make the slam of a car door, sound like (you guessed it) a car door. And explosions? Well, they should sound (and feel) like EXPLOSIONS, not car doors. Not only did we achieve such subjective goals, but, after the countless computer simulations, test mules, and styling variations, we carved out a line of affordable subs so good, so radical in their approach to making bass, that the guys knew…”if I was buying a sub today, this is what I’d want.” This philosophy continues now with even higher performance models like our new CS-Ultra subwoofers. Innovation never stops at SVS.
