Virtual Reality speaker design has been Albert Von Schweikert's passion since 1957. Albert's research goal is to develop new speaker technology that will enable a listener to believe he or she is listening to live music. Each VR model is uniquely endowed with engineering breakthroughs combined with the latest technology in driver design, innovative crossover engineering, and the psychoacoustics of the listening experience.
For instance, our Global Axis Integration Network crossover design and driver radiation pattern allows the speaker to radiate a "bubble" of sound instead of a narrow beam, enabling 3-D imaging over a very wide listening area. Combined with our rear-firing Ambience Retrieval System for spatial depth, our Virtual Reality speaker design reproduces sound that is incredibly real! Find out why 19 magazine reviews have stated "the Von Schweikert speakers do indeed create Virtual Reality!"
VR-4SR Mk2 Version Now Shipping!
Due to our ongoing Research and Development program at Von Schweikert Audio, one of our valued suppliers of cones, A.A.C., (formerly called Audax), has helped us develop a superior sounding midrange driver to replace the older Aerogel unit used in the previous VR-4SR speaker system.
The new midrange driver is visually a different unit with changes to the cone composition, edge surround, and dust cap design. These changes were developed due to our constant search for a reduction in distortion and improvement in clarity. These improvements are not only measurable, they are very audible. Since 80% of the music resides in the midrange frequency band, this sonic area can be considered to be the "heart" of the speaker system.
In order for our new midrange driver to be seamlessly woven into the tapestry of the bass and treble regions, changes were also required to all of the crossovers, not just the midrange circuit. This is due to the fact that the new mid's transfer function is quite different from the older design in both the bottom and top ends of its operating bandwidth.
1. Greater clarity, transparency, and smoothness in the midrange from 100Hz to 4kHz.
Although the retail price has changed significantly, the overall sonic improvements place the new VR-4SR Mk2 in the quality range of speaker systems selling for over $20,000/pr based on our comparisons against Wilson, Kharma, and Avalon speaker systems.
In addition, the exotic Madagascar African Ebony and Tiger Stripe Indonesian Sycamore finishes, previously priced at an upcharge of $2,000, are now included at the same price as the standard finishes.
All things considered, the new VR-4SR Mk2 will be considered to be one of the world's premiere speaker systems at a truly attractive price point
