History of the company.  Audiomat was born in 1986, created by two brothers, Denis and Norbert Clarisse. Denis is an engineer in Computer Science, and designs all the schematics and circuits. Norbert has a degree in Political Science and Sociology, and manages the company. At the beginning, Norbert's passion was music; Denis's passion was audio. Their first products were of such quality that they took the decision to put them on the market. The first Audiomat product was an OTL 2 x 20 watt stereo amplifier, using 16 triodes-6AS7G. The design was already original: only two stages, no feedback loop, pure Class A, 110 lbs!

The philosophy

Most companies' designs emanate from measurement results or from endlessly reinvented old-fashioned circuits. At Audiomat, each product is created bearing in mind, at each step, the most elegant technology known today required to achieve musical excellence.
Audiomat "wish-list" always includes:
- Employing the right technology to accomplish a certain design task : it is better to have a good transistor circuit than a bad tube circuit and vice versa. Audiomat will employ whatever circuit is best to achieve a particular design goal, be it valve or transistor.
- The simplicity of the circuits insures quality and reliability.
- Trying to get the best “open loop” performances (the feedback must not be used to hide problems).
- Countless listening sessions lead to the final technological choices: it is not uncommon with Audiomat to wait several years between the first release of a prototype and its release on the market!
- An incredible stability of the products: Audiomat products sell for 5 to 10 years before the next generation appears!

The products
You will discover that the Audiomat amplifiers never sound like as "transistor" (controlled, powerful, ... dry and unnatural), nor like as "tube" (warm, unmelodious,... mellow and slow). They simply sound incredibly "real". The use of tubes is not what matters here. They sound quick, controlled, warm, musical, and detailed, thus recreating the full ambiance of the original event.

This is also true for the transistor DACs: many listeners have believed those products use tubes!

- 1987: Prélude, a 2 x 30 w valve integrated amplifier; a fifteen-year-old design in 2002, carefully fine tuned and improved over the years. A benchmark design.
- 1993: Tempo 1, Audiomat first transistor DAC.
- 1994: Solfège, critically acclaimed 2 x 40 W valve integrated amplifier.

- 1999: creation of the Prélude Référence, an improved version of the legendary Prélude employing ultra high-end components, a power supply with triple the capacity of the original, a remote control and an aircraft aluminum top cover.

- 1999: creation of the Solfège Référence, an improved version of the famous Solfège employing  ultra high-end components, a power supply with 15 % more capacity, a remote control and an aircraft aluminum top cover.

- 1999: creation of the Tango 2.5, a refined 24 bit / 96 kHz version of the Tango 2.

- 2000: creation of the Tempo 2.5, a refined 24 bit / 96 kHz version of the Tempo 2 Évolution.

- 2000: creation of the Maestro, Audiomat finest DAC employing ultra high-end 24 bit / 96 kHz DACs and components.

- 2001: creation of the Arpège Référence, an improved version of the famous Arpège.

- 2003: creation of the Prélude Référence Mk2, an improved version of the famous Prélude Référence.

- 2003: creation of the Opéra.

- 2004: creation of the Recital.

The press

Throughout the company’s history, Audiomat products have received countless awards and critical acclaim.  They have never received anything but a glowing review. Several audio journalists have acquired Audiomat products for their personal use, both in Europe and in North America and the list keeps growing. The Tempo 2 was classified with products costing up to five times its price (The Nouvelle Revue du Son), a German magazine has placed the Solfège at the top of all integrated products tested with a rating of 100/100 (!) and a magazine worshiped by music lovers, the "Monde de la Musique", has awarded the Prélude (1995), Solfège (1997), Tempo 2 Evolution (1998) and Arpège (1999) with the "Impact of the Year" award.

Audio journalists and music-lover/audiophiles have been enchanted by the pure musicality and the “magic” of Audiomat products.  This “magic” they refer to is the ability of the Audiomat to communicate in a natural way the emotion and the passion of the original event.  This is the defining quality of Audiomat and this is what sets Audiomat apart from the rest.

Since the introduction of Audiomat to North America in 1996, the Phono 1 has been considered by UHF (Ultra High Fidelity, Montreal) as "better than their reference", the Arpège has been awarded "Big-time best buy" by Soundstage!, "the most musical integrated amplifier" by Listener Magazine, and North-American reviewers have purchased Audiomat products for their own personal system!

De nieuwe DAC’s beschikken over de beste multibit Burr Brown 24-bit/96 kHz chips: de PCM 1704. (Veel 24 bit DA-converters in de huidige markt zijn géén echte multibit maar 1-bitters). Het analoge gedeelte van de DAC’s beschikken net als de voorgaande modellen over een passief uitgangsfilter maar nu met een nieuwe feedbackloze klasse A transistortrap.

Het klankmatige resultaat ten opzichte van de vorige modellen is verbluffend. (Veel meer
dan wij zelf hadden verwacht). Nog veel meer lucht rond instrumenten, betere laagweer-
gave en veel betere weergave van zachte passages.

Het nieuwe topmodel van Audiomat is de Audiomat MAESTRO.Een 24 bit 96kHz Digitaal-Analoog converter.Dit is de ultieme DA-converter. Superlatieven schieten tekort. Dit moet u horen.
Zoals op de foto te zien is de converter uitermate zwaar geconstrueerd De Maestro is leverbaar in zwart en aluminium. Binnenkort meer informatie over de Audiomat Maestro.
 
De bouw van de nieuwe converters is, zoals we van Audiomat gewend zijn, zeer robuust.
De bijna analoog aandoende binnenzijde van de converters geeft prijs dat er wederom veel
aandacht is besteed aan een goede voeding. Wie de voorgangers van deze twee converters
kent, zal meteen zien dat het eigenlijk twee volledig nieuwe converters zijn en niet slechts
een upgrade, zoals de nieuwe namen doen vermoeden.

De Arpege versterker is grotendeels gebaseerd op de Prélude. Het grote verschil is
het zwarte, gedeeltelijk transparante, frontpaneel en de lagere prijs. Bekijk de test van de Arpège.

Door het frontpaneel zijn de gloeiende buizen te zien. De eindtrap bestaat uit twee paar in push-pull geconfigureerde EL-34 WXT buizen, welke een uitgangsvermogen genereren van 30 watt per kanaal. Slechts 7 dB aan feedback kenmerkt deze versterker.

De Prelude Référence is een sterk verbeterde versie van de Prelude. Dit model beschikt over de voeding van de Solfège. De buizen zijn hetzelfde als die van de Arpege: 3x 12AX7A en 4x EL34WXT. Deze versterker klinkt bijzonder snel en transparant doordat de feedback verder is teruggebracht naar 3 dB. Verder wordt deze versterker geleverd met afstandsbediening.

Audiomat Opera Référence

De Opera Référence is, analoog aan het vorige, de verbeterde versie van de Prélude Ref. De eindtrappen bestaan uit 4x EL34 buizen. Het vermogen is nu echter volledig in klasse A. Ook de Opera Référence wordt geleverd met afstandsbediening.

Audiomat Phono 1.5 MM/MC voorversterker

De nieuwe MM /MC phono voorversterker is nu ondergebracht in een Audiomat Tango kast. Met een donker plexiglas front, zoals toegepast bij de Arpège. Met de twee schakelaars op het front kan de voorversterker omgeschakeld worden naar de MM of MC stand. Ondanks het feit dat het apparaat geheel discreet is opgebouwd (vrij van IC’s), is de opbouw van de circuits zodanig dat wederzijdse thermische beïnvloeding van de componenten uitgesloten is én de voorversterker feedbackvrij functioneert.
